ENGLISH
“When I read great literature, great drama, speeches, or sermons, I feel that the human mind has not achieved anything greater than the ability to share feelings and thoughts through language.” – James Earl Jones.
The study of English develops children’s abilities to listen, speak, read and write for a wide range of purposes. Language is used to learn and communicate ideas, views and feelings. It enables children to express themselves clearly, creatively and imaginatively in response to their reading and through their speaking and writing. We expose our children to a diverse range of texts and genres to engage and develop their love of literature and enjoyment of reading.
Speaking, listening, reading and writing are part of everything we do in our lives. All these aspects of language have a key place in our learning in school.
