Y6 London 2014
Thirty seven bleary eyed year 6 pupils waved goodbye to parents and carers and set off for London in the week before half term. After 7 hours on the bus, pupils watched a 4D London experience movie at the London Eye before boarding pods to view the panoramic views of the capital city. Later that day, pupils visited the world famous Madame Tussaud’s wax work museum where they got the chance to get up close to the amazingly life like models of famous celebrities such as Usain Bolt, Elvis Presley and the Queen. Some hardy souls even dared to enter the Chamber of Horrors : not for the faint-hearted!
The following day a bus tour took pupils and staff past many of the sights in central London and pupils were fortunate enough to get a sneaky peak of the Royal Guards practising for the ‘Trooping of the Colour, a special ceremony to celebrate the Queen’s birthday’. “It was awesome, the bus tour was the best!” explained Toby Green. After the tour finished, SIJS moved on to the world famous Natural History Museum in Kensington where pupils explored just some of the 70 million items on display such as a dinosaur skeletons, taxidermy animals and a cross section of a giant sequoia tree. From then on it was show time in the West End with a matinee performance of The Lion King, followed by an evening with Roald Dahl’s Matilda.
The final day in London was spent at the Science Museum where pupils got the opportunity to apply some class learning to practical experiments. After a virtual ride in a 4D Red Arrow simulator and a learning workshop on forces in action it was time for another 7 hours in the bus to end what was a brilliant experience for all involved.
